However, I am very excited to announce that I have started working on the scripts, now the series is in development, adapting them from French into English.

The Man Who Planted Trees

In June 2011, the Puppet State Theatre asked me to adapt their puppet show from English into French.

The story of Elzéard Bouffier was in fact originally adapted into English from a short story written by French author Jean Giono (L’Homme qui plantait les arbres).

My mission was to rewrite this “unique blend of comedy, puppetry and inspiring storytelling” into French, suggest alternative jokes/puns and adapt a song… As can be imagined, this was not an easy task! I worked on several drafts throughout July before sending out the “final” translation.

I worked closely with the company, simplifying parts that had proved too tricky to say for non-native speakers: this included an afternoon spent with the artists: they read through the entire script and I made sure everything was clear and to their satisfaction.

The Puppet State Theatre subsequently successfully performed in French in the Charleville World Puppetry Festival on the 23-24th of September 2011.

I’ve recently teamed up with VSI, the famous London studio, to provide time-codes and English translation and subtitling (spotting list) for Trace TV, a sports channel.

I have been working on a range of programs, including: Sporty News, My Favourite Champion, Top Fan and some feature programs, including a special Entourage program about Christian Karembeu.

Yes, I translated their show for subtitling… Quite a challenge – plenty of puns, play on words and other jokes, to adapt to the French market… An enjoyable yet… suitably terrifying experience!

I recently undertook the spotting, translation and editing into English of three episodes of this excellent science series. The topics were extremely varied and required a real research as far as terminology was concerned. However, I really enjoyed the diversity!

In 2011, I am working on a series adapted from the books featuring Michel Gay’s lovely little zebra, Zou.

For this specific project (commissioned by Cyber Group Studios for Disney UK), I am working both into English and into French, which can present obvious challenges, in particular with regards to juggling languages! It is very exciting as I am involved both at pre-production and production levels – from bibles and notes of intent to pitches, treatments and scripts. A wonderful adventure!

Subtitling: “Qui voit ses Veines”

I was very touched to be asked to subtitle “Qui Voit ses Veines”. Indeed it did mean a lot to me, on a personal level, as it did reflect relationships I had with my own grandparents, but also professionally as both the time-coding and the actual adaptation required very specific care and attention.

The subtitling of this intimate documentary proved quite a challenge: most important was respecting the rhythm of the narrative, the poetic voice inside – weaving in with the progressive revelation of an ingrained family secret, encapsulating the mundane within the extraordinary…

I was very honoured to be able to take part in this most extraordinary project and I hope to collaborate with the director in the future…

I was very excited indeed when Moonscoop asked me, following our collaboration on the Jungle Book, to help with the translation of several scripts into French for the second series of the famous journalist mouse’s adventures!

It’s got to be said, there never was a dull moment in the company of Geronimo, Thea and the rest of the gang!
